“Sustainability seems to be the buzzword in both fashion and beauty these days. The burgeoning demand for ethically made products has propelled brands to rethink their business models. Established last Christmas for the discerning, homegrown brand Straits Skincare worked with doctors and scientists to create a handful of sustainable and effective beauty products.
Drawing inspiration from traditional Peranakan secrets, Straits Skincare combines age-old homemade Nyonya recipes passed down by generations, making use of local ingredients that have been used extensively for their curative and protective properties. Three products, the Invigorating Ginger Hand Sanitiser, Refreshing Jasmine Hand Sanitiser, Soothing Plantain Face Toner, are conceived without compromising the health of the planet and humans.
Perpetuating the notion of sustainability, the local-based brand packaged its products in reusable and recyclable materials. As an incentive, it offers reduced prices for customers who choose the ‘No Packaging’ option.”
